Experience the ’Local lifestyle’ at Mount Maunganui
Beautiful Mt Maunganui or 'Mauao' which means 'Caught by the dawn' is an iconic landmark of the Bay of Plenty region. Home to many Pa sites, native flora and fauna such as the NZ Fur seal who love to sun bathe by the rock pools and grand old Pohutukawa's that lean out towards the ocean creating a stunning crimson coastline in the Summer. The walk around the base is a relaxing 3.4km but of course the best view is at the summit. Several tracks lead to the top where you can enjoy breathtaking 360° views along the Bay of Plenty coastline, out across the harbour to Tauranga and the Kaimai Range beyond - exquisite!
An enjoyable 30 minute drive from The French Country House the buzzing hub of Mount Maunganui Mainstreet offers a range of boutiques and culinary delights. End your day in true local style with 'Fish n Chips' and a Copenhagen Cones at the peaceful Pilot Bay and relax and unwind in the famous salt water Mount Hot Pools nestled at the base of Mauao himself.
