Just a short 30 minute drive from the French Country House is the sleepy town of 'Waihi Beach', a small community with so much to share! Boutique shops The French Shop Waihi Beach, Shipshape, Mollys at the Beachand Cafes dot the town centre and the locals are the friendliest you will meet.
A visit to the popular Flatwhite Waihi Beach cafe for lunch is a must. This spectacular restaurant overlooks the Pacific Ocean and has a lovely menu as well as yummy cabinet nosh. Visit during Summer and the coastline is lined with Crimson Pohutukawa and fluffy Toi Toi. Soft white sandy beaches run for miles and the surf is beautiful for a swim or perhaps a try at the loved Kiwi past time of 'boogie boarding' (available at the local hardware store).
If time and the weather is on your side, the Orokawa Bay walk is an enjoyable way to spend your afternoon! This coastal walk is an easy 1.5 hour round trip along the edges of beautiful native bush. After 45 minutes you will be greeted by the stunning view of the secluded Orokawa bay.
Any trip to Waihi beach of course can't end without a stop at the 'Yellow Dairy' for an Ice cream cone before making your way back to The French Country House.
