A pre-invitation officially announces your wedding date and lets guests know that they are invited to your celebration. But are they optional? And when should they be sent?
The French Country House wedding package includes complimentary use of our in house wedding planner / host - Kay Pierson. Kay has a wealth of experience from her time in the wedding industry as a celebrant and host and is most happy to assist planning your dream day. Here are some of Kay's frequently asked questions when it comes to initial planning and invitations:
Are wedding save-the-dates really optional?
Yes! After all it is your wedding! However this is a tradition many couples choose to keep as they help long-distance guests make work, childcare and travel plans in advance. It holds the date if you are to be wed during the 'busy season', and of course it announces your engagement formally!
Sending a save-the-date also sets the tone for your upcoming nuptials and gives guests a glimpse of the kind of wedding you are planning.
When should we send our save-the-dates?
The unwritten rule is four to six months prior, however for destination wedding, eight months to a year before your wedding date. If you are using a designer such as 'Be my guest' or 'Fox and the Hare' for bespoke invitations you will need to allow roughly three - four weeks from drafting to receiving physical copies via courier.
Who do I send them to? - All of our guests?
The most important guests who should receive this 'early' invitation are your wedding party, close relatives, guests who you would like to play a role in your wedding and of course anyone else you are certain you would like to come!
What information should we include?
Keep it brief which allows for changes to be made without a fuss! Be sure to include your names, the date of your wedding and the location. We recommend that the venue name is included also for destination weddings!
Do we need to match the save-the-dates to our wedding invitations?
Not if you don't want them to! However most invitation designers offer a 'collection' of a design so it is much easier to choose a look that reflects your personal style which will supply you with everything from save-the-dates to thank you cards.
Who are some designers we should contact?
Etsy is always a great resource when planning a wedding, bespoke beautiful creations from all over the world to inspire! New Zealand based illustrators 'The Fox and the Hare' and 'Be my guest' also create gorgeous personalised wedding stationary.
